I thought the finale was excellent. I liked that the underdogs went far, including Dan who despite being ridiculously positive, had been almost voted out like 50 times.Thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed the finale, and that was definitely one of the things I liked about Dan's story too.
I think that people who have a problem with GC winning are going to be people who put too much emphasis on strategy. I think that nowadays people feel like the person who needs to win a reality game are the people who played the best, but the thing is...this isn't 100%, strictly a game show. If it was completely a strategy show, then we'd just be watching a chess tournament.I totally agree. I don't think the winner will or should always be the person who is the "most strategic" or the "best at strategy." If this were true, every season would be completely boring and you would know who the winner was in the first few episodes. Plus, everyone can have different strategies so who's to say that G.C.'s strategy of keeping people fed and entertaining, making friends with everyone and working hard at camp isn't just as good as Charlie's strategy-botness. It got G.C. to the Final Two without a single vote and never once being a serious target! And I have to vary up the winners every time to keeps things from being predictable, so you're absolutely right here.
Definitely. I totally agree with that.
It's a little strategy, sure, but it's also a lot of survival, social skills and luck. Randy had horrible social skills, as opposed to GC who got along with pretty much everybody. GC wasn't as good strategically as Randy, but he was good enough to say that he had done something, and was noticeable.
The term deserving is misconstrued a lot in Survivor a lot. The bottom line is, the game was never meant to be fair or objective. It was always designed for the voted off, and the winner to leave/win for different reasons every year. Why? Because the tribe is different every year, and so is the jury.Again, this is a perfect assessment and it goes back to the luck thing too - the luck of the people who are on the jury and what they are looking for. The China outcome may have been opposite with Gabon's jury, etc. Things have to be switched up all the time. Every juror will have a different relationship with the Final Two, different reasons for why they're voting, and if everyone voted strictly on "best strategist" all the time, it would not be very good.
GC won because the seven people who were voted out prior felt he should win. Switch out one person and we might have had a totally different outcome and season.
Thanks again for reading and for stickying the thread, Rebnik! I appreciate your support and I really enjoyed this post. Hope you will be interested in reading a season with original characters. Have a great day!
